For centuries, horses have literally carried us on their backs over mountains and across rivers. They've plowed our farms, been our partners from roping to the racetrack, protected our streets, and taken us places we would never have experienced without their strength and perseverance.
We are inspired by horses' majesty and touched by their enormous hearts. We can't help but marvel at them. Horses have roamed the earth for more than 50 million years.
Nationally renowned horse trainer and TV host Dennis Brouse will lead an experienced team to tell the story, as it can only be told on public television, in a six-part documentary, shot in high-definition titled: History of the Horse. The six, one-hour parts will work together to tell the whole story and will also serve as free-standing one-hour programs.
Part 1 - The Breeds
The evolution of the horse going back
over 50 million years, with an overview of the world's 350 breeds,
where they come from, and why they've evolved as they have.
Part 2 - The Companion
The story of man's relationship with
the horse, how we got together and why, and even some of healing
qualities as illustrated through hippotherapy. We will discuss this
across cultures, but focus special attention on the horse in the US, importance to Native Americans, pioneers, settlers, etc.
Part 3 - The Warrior
For thousands of years horses have been warriors. We will discuss when and how horses have been used in battle and their heroic place in history through the ages.
Part 4 - The Entertainer
For many of us, we
grew to love horses by watching them in the movies or on television. A
chronicle of movies and TV shows over the past 60 years will offer an
exciting look at some of our favorite horses.
Part 5 - The Worker
Since horses have plowed our farms,
helped us explore new frontier, and helped build this country, we'll
explore the many roles horses have played across the ages and here in
America.
Part 6 - The Athlete
From hunter/jumpers to racehorses, there's nothing like the majesty and popularity of the horse as a finely-tuned athlete.
